About Us

The public works men and women serve our community with pride and their goal is to keep Delran a desirable community.  Every day of every season in all kinds of weather the public works department works hard to improve our resident’s quality of life.  Our dedicated crews add value to the daily experience of all those who live and do business in Delran.  Our workers consist of 14 employees who include one superintendent, one supervisor, one secretarial assistant, two mechanics and nine roadmen.  We are all friendly and can be approached at any time for any question regarding the care and upkeep of township properties.  We are out every day and can be spotted by our lime green shirts.

Some of our tasks in the town include, but not limited to, pothole repair; branch pickup; snow removal; clean and repair all storm drains; painting crosswalks; maintain all irrigation; curbside leaf collection; cut and maintain all parks in common areas; repair or replace all road signs.  Public Works maintains and operates a compost facility and we also have a fully equipped automotive garage in which we repair all of the police vehicles, all of the township heavy equipment and vehicles, and all of the sewer department vehicles.

The public works department also provides a drop off facility for all your recycles, paint, electronics, TVs, and motor oil.  We produce a fine quality of wood chips which we offer back to the Delran residents free of charge if picked up.

Pickup Schedule

Branch Pickup
Please note that branch pickup is operational between April 1st to October 1st. The township provides a dumpster at the Public Works yard for branches and tree limbs. You may bring them to the municipal building Monday through Friday between 7 am and 2:30 pm and place them in or next to the wood dumpster. Sizes are limited to a maximum of 8’ long and 4” in diameter and should be stacked in the same direction. All branches must be curbside by October 1, 2019 as final collection will begin on October 2, 2019.

Fall Leaf Collection
Leaves are collected by the Department of Public Works in the Fall between Mid-October and December 1st and in the Spring between April 1st until April 30th. All leaves should be placed in the street next to the curb but only during those two collection seasons.
Snow Plowing
Delran Township has a Snow Ordinance in effect. Please check the Municipal E-Code website
Street Signs & Traffic Signals
The Department of Public Works maintains all street signs, stop signs and road signs throughout the town.  The signs are replaced as needed according to a maintenance schedule. The upkeep of our streets requires constant vigilance and the department employees take pride in the town’s clean and well-maintained roadways.  Report any traffic signal outages to the Police department or the Public Works department.
Parks Department
The Public Work Department is responsible for maintaining public facilities, outdoor parks, and recreation facilities.
Ball Diamond Maintenance
The Department mows and maintains all of the Township’s ball diamonds.
Park Maintenance
The Public Works Department is responsible for maintaining all parks, soccer fields and all playgrounds including Green Acres. This includes mowing a multitude of acres, trimming trees, landscaping and the painting and repair of park benches, playground equipment, and buildings.
Trash Pickup
All trash must be contained in 65 or 96 gallon trash containers provided.  Requirements for items such as carpenter wood (4 x 4’s, plywood, etc. should be cut into lengths and placed into the containers.   Any glass must be taped securely to prevent it from shattering. Carpet materials should be cut and placed into the containers.   All alkaline batteries (AA, C, D, etc.) can now be thrown out with your regular trash. Make sure larger items are not placed against or on top of your trash can.

Trash should not be put at curbside prior to 5 pm the day before your scheduled collection day as per Delran Ordinance 299-11.C .

If you have any questions regarding any other type of materials, please call the Public Works Department at 856-461-7737 between the hours of 7 am and 3 pm.
Bulk Pickup
The trash company will pick up large items that have hazardous material in them on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month. Twenty-four-hour notice is required. These items include refrigerators, air-conditioners, etc. Please call the Township at 856-461-7734 to make sure your item(s) are on the list.

All other large items such as sofas, furniture, mattresses, etc. will be picked up on your regular trash day.

Note: Bulk items pickup usually involves another truck coming back later in the day. The first truck cannot pick up the bulk item.
Grass Clippings
Residents are reminded that there is no roadside pickup for grass clippings. The County and Township urge all residents to use mulching mowers. If you must pickup grass clippings, please bag and place with trash in container provided.

Remember, the Township residents ultimately pay the “Tipping Fees” (fees paid to county dump) to dump grass in the dump. Allowing grass clippings to stay on your lawn saves money.
