COAH Update

The Township has been proactively preparing for the current situation surrounding the Council On Affordable Housing (COAH) requirements.

For the first two rounds of requirements, we have met or exceeded our COAH requirements. However, COAH has failed to determine the third round obligations for the state.

In 2015, the State Supreme Court ruled that COAH was no longer a functioning agency and directed the municipalities to go to the courts to determine and comply with their obligation. Delran township will ultimately meet our obligation while continuing to fight to ensure that the obligation is realistic.

During the July 11th, Council Meeting, Council President Gary Catrambone briefly reviewed the previous actions taken. You can see and hear the video of that meeting  and specifically at 24:26 (24 minutes and 26 seconds) hear the remarks regarding the COAH situation.

On July 21st, the agenda for the July 25th meeting was posted indicating that at the July 25th meeting, we would set up a time and date for a public forum to discuss and review the history of our Affordable Housing plan which is designed to ensure that the end result is in the best interest of the entire community.

NOTE: Due to the township’s lawsuit defense. Some litigation details cannot be discussed in this post or any public forum.
